At Ten Mile Community Church, what we believe shapes everything we do. Our faith is rooted in the truth of God’s Word and reflects our desire to know Him more deeply, follow Jesus faithfully, and live in step with the Holy Spirit. This statement of faith outlines the core truths that guide our teaching, inform our decisions, and unite us as a church family. Whether you’re exploring Christianity or looking for a church to call home, we invite you to read through these foundational beliefs and discover the heart behind who we are and why we exist.
God
We believe there is one God, the Creator of all things, who is holy, infinitely perfect, and eternally existing. This one God is a loving unity of three equally divine Persons, the Father, Son and Holy Spirit (the Trinity). They are each God and yet they are each a distinct Person, responsible for different duties within the Godhead. Having limitless knowledge and sovereign power, God has graciously purposed from eternity to redeem a people for Himself and to make all things new for His own glory.
Genesis 1:1, Genesis 1:26, Deuteronomy 32:3-4; 33:27, 1 Samuel 2:2, Psalm 18:30-31, Matthew 18:10-14; 28:19, John 4:24, Hebrews 4:12, 2 Peter 3:9, Revelation 21:1-8
Father
We believe God the Father is the first person of the Trinity and serves as the functional head. He is the eternal existing ‘I AM’. His love, grace and mercy are the foundation of salvation and righteous judgment and calls us into covenant relationship with Himself and with one another.
Exodus 3:14, Matthew 6:26, John 3:16-17, John 4:24, James 1:17
Son
We believe in Jesus Christ, the Living Word, the eternal and only son of God. He became fully man without ceasing to be God, having been conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He received a sinless human body in order that He might redeem sinful man. We believe the finished work of redemption is made sure to us by His literal, physical resurrection from the dead.
John 1:1-2, 1:14, 3:16; Luke 1:35; Romans 3:24-25; I Peter 1:3-5; 1 Peter 2:22, Philippians 2:5-8, 2 Corinthians 5:21, Hebrews 4:15
Holy Spirit
We believe in the Holy Spirit, who breathed God's message into the prophets and apostles. We believe that God gives us the indwelling Holy Spirit to be our teacher who empowers us to live a life of obedience to the Word of God by developing in us the fruits of the Spirit. He also enables us to serve God by giving spiritual gifts according to His plan and purpose. These gifts are to be used for growing and strengthening the Body of Christ.
1 Corinthians 12-14, Romans 12, Ephesians 4, Galatians 5:22
The Bible
We believe that God verbally inspired the Bible and has given it to us as the uniquely authoritative, written guide for Christian living and thinking. The Scriptures are true, complete, and reliable. As illuminated by the Holy Spirit, they point us to Christ, guide our lives, and nurture us toward spiritual maturity.
II Timothy 3:16-17, II Peter 1:19-21
Sin
We believe man was created in the image and likeness of God, but in Adam’s sin, humanity fell. All mankind inherited a sinful nature, became alienated from God, and are totally unable to retrieve themselves from their lost condition.
Genesis 1:26, 2:17, 6:6; Jeremiah 17:9; Romans 3:10-19, 5:12, 8:6-7, Ephesians 2:1-6
Salvation
We believe that salvation comes through Jesus Christ alone, to whom we must respond with repentance, faith, and obedience. Through Christ we come into a right relationship with God, have our sins forgiven, and receive eternal life. This salvation is a gift of God because of His grace and mercy.
John 1:12; Ephesians 1:17; Ephesians 2:8-9, Luke 23:43; Leviticus 17:11; Matthew 26:28; Romans 3:26, Romans 5:6-9; II Corinthians 5:19-21; Galatians 3:13; I Peter 1:18-19
The Church
We believe the church is composed of all who trust in Jesus Christ as Savior, is the body and bride of Christ, and is a spiritual organism, which supports and equips each other through worship, teaching, and accountability. The Church models God's loving community and proclaims the gospel to the world. The Lord Jesus Christ instituted the ordinances of water baptism and the Lord’s Supper to be observed until his return.
Ephesians 1:22-23, 5:25-27; I Corinthians 12:12-14, Matthew 28:19-20; I Corinthians 11:23-26
Christian Life
We believe that all the saved should live in such a manner as to not bring reproach upon their Savior and the Church. We should strive to be imitators of Jesus Christ in all pursuits and live worthy of our calling as children of God. This includes living in love and fellowship with other believers which includes mutual submission and accountability. The result of following Christ empowers us to love non-believers right where they are in life with mercy and compassion.
II Tim. 3:1-5; Rom. 12:1-2, 14:13; I John 2:15-17; II John 1:9-11; II Cor. 6:14; Eph 4:1, 1 Corinthians 6:19-20
Human Design
We believe God creates people in His image. He creates us male and female (genetically and biologically) and gives us our gender from birth and there is no mistake. The sexual union is reserved for the joining of one man and one woman within the marriage relationship. All other practices of the sexual experience are against God’s design and sinful. Although the male and female are designed differently, they are equal in value, worth, importance, dignity, and position in Christ.
Genesis 1:24-31; 2:7-25, Romans 1:18-32; 1 Corinthians 6:12-20, Matthew 5:27-32; 19:4-12, James 1:13-15.
Satan
We believe that Satan was originally a created being who attempted to take over God’s Throne. He was subsequently cast out of heaven and has become God’s enemy. He and his demons roam the world seeking to keep people from God.
Ephesians 2:1-2, 1 Peter 5:8-9, Revelation 20:7-10
The Return of Christ and Eternal Destiny
We believe in the personal, bodily and glorious return of our Lord Jesus Christ. The coming of Christ, at a time known only to God, requires constant expectancy and, as our blessed hope, motivates the believer to godly living, sacrificial service and a steadfast mission.
We believe that God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. We believe that God will physically raise the dead and judge the world, assigning the unbeliever to condemnation and eternal conscious punishment apart from God, and the believer to eternal blessing and joy with the Lord, in the new heaven
and the new earth, to the praise of His glorious grace. Amen.
